Blue Ocean Gear
Satellite buoys
The Smart Farallon satellite buoy, a high-tech marvel, enables fishermen to monitor the location and movement of their fixed or drifting gear, wherever and whenever it is deployed. This buoy helps fishermen save money while protecting the ocean environment and serves as a decision-making tool.
The Smart Farallon buoy is compact and equipped with multiple sensors. It transmits real-time position and movement data via the Iridium satellite network.
Made of durable polymer, it is designed to withstand the rigors of offshore fishing and immersion up to 200 meters. It is small and lightweight enough to fit in a crab or lobster trap, yet sturdy enough to handle rough handling on deck or strong currents.
It can be used with a wide range of equipment, from traps and longlines to gillnets and even Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs).
The buoy activates automatically upon contact with water and turns off when removed from the water.
The wireless smart charger is designed for quick recharging on board. The buoy’s battery life ranges from 2 weeks to 6 months, depending on the customizable data transmission frequency—from every 15 minutes to once a day (with an 8-hour recharge time).
To track and monitor your equipment, three options are available:
- The Buoy Locator app (available on smartphones and Android),
- BlueVue web portal (requires internet connection),
- Data transfer to TimeZero.
The Plotterlink, paired with the buoy, is a transceiver used when there is no internet access. It works with any plotter, allowing you to receive real-time buoy positions with unlimited range.
